Testing Review Help
Our school now has access to a great resource for preparing our students for the test. We are using a web-based program called Study Island, which is accessible to students from school or home. If you have Internet access, your child can access Study Island from home to prepare for the state assessments. The website is http://www.studyisland.com. Students have been given a user name and password. Please continue over the summer to access this website to prepare for the 2008-2009 school year!

East Jr. High's Cultural Arts Department will present "An Artful Affair" this Thursday, November 19.

McDowell Volunteer Center ~ Make a Diference The Board of the Volunteer Center sets the theme for Make A Difference Day in McDowell County. Because of the budget cuts and unemployment rates in McDowell County this year, our theme for Make A Difference Day -- SUPPORT OUR SCHOOLS. October 24 (MAKE A DIFFERENCE DAY) bring your items to the Tailgate Market in Marion. The Volunteer Center will be there collecting items from 10:00 to 1:00.Remember, the items on the attached list are what the schools in our county most needed, but you can collect any items that would benefit the schools or others sponsored activities or groups. Many people are in need. Look at what they need, and collect it.
PEOPLE TO PEOPLE AMBASSADOR PROGRAM
Traveling to the South Pacific, Asia, Europe and many other destinations, People to People Student Ambassador Programs offer students in grades 5-12 life-changing educational travel opportunities that foster friendship, build the foundation for personal success, and offer unique access to people, places, and activities. Program delegations are built around local communities, so students make friends locally before they travel globally.
The program invites nominated students to build their leadership skills during a People to People Leadership Program. Anyone that is interested in the People to People program, or knows of someone that falls into the leadership category and would be a good ambassador, please contact Mr. Clark at 652-7711.
McDowell Technical Classes
Starting college while still attending high school is not a dream, but a REALITY! McDowell Technical Community College offers free tuition to all high school students who are at least 16 years of age. Through the Huskins, Dual, and Concurrent programs, students can enroll in day and evening courses and begin building their college transcript. IMPORTANT REMINDERS:
Anyone coming to check out a student MUST have a picture ID and the students’ complete name for verification.
No Electronic devices (cell phones, MP3's, etc...) are permitted during the instructional day: 7:45am - 3:00pm.
ARRIVAL AND DROP OFF PROCEDURES:
No students should be in the building before 7:00 a.m.
In the Mornings- When entering the school in the morning Non-breakfast eating students will do the following:
-7th and 8th grade will go straight to the Gym.
-9th grade will go to the auditorium.
-Students are not allowed in the halls before the bell rings.
Car riders should be dropped off in the back of the school off Baldwin Avenue in the mornings.
Cars are not permitted in the circle in the front of the school in the morning from 7:00 a.m. - 8:00 a.m. OR in the afternoon (at any time) due to the busses.
Car Riders are dismissed (as car riders) at 2:55 p.m. and should be picked up in the back of the school off Baldwin Avenue.
Walkers are dismissed (as walkers) at 3:00 p.m. and leave the campus from the front of the school. ( If you are picked up by a car in the front of the school, you are NOT a car rider, you are a walker and must wait until that bell rings to leave campus in the afternoon).

MCPS Child Nutrition can now offer you a way to add money to your child(ren)'s lunch account online using your credit or debit card! To use this online payment service click on Lunch Prepay and register as a new member. After you have registered you will need to add your students using thier name, school, and lunch number. Once your child(ren)'s names have been verified you will be able to add money to his/her account(s).
